Human influenced climate change is a global issue. It is unlike any other environmental problem humanity has faced in terms of its scale, impacts and solutions. It will involve a significant change in the way humanity thinks about, and uses energy and natural resources.
The impacts of climate change are already being felt across the world. It will profoundly affect our economic stability, our planetary ecology and, most significantly, the lives of billions of people – both now and in the future.
Climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon: incoming radiation from the sun is trapped within the atmosphere, causing a global warming effect. This warming effect has made the Earth a hospitable place to support life. Nevertheless, human activity from the burning of fossil fuels and land use changes has greatly altered the concentration of gases in the atmosphere, known as greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change. The result is that the earth’s atmosphere is getting warmer.
Urgent international action must be taken within the next 10-15 years to avoid unstoppable and catastrophic climate change.
In order to achieve this change, it is clear that everyone must act – government, business and civil society – to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon Clarity is helping organisations achieve this change.
